Position(s):

Performer

Andrew "Komplexx" McLean (Sankofa Soundz Band) is a drummer/percussionist born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. His parents, who are of Jamaican origin, realized his musical talent at a young age and he got his first drum set at only 3 years old. Predominantly self taught, Andrew advanced quickly showing much progress. He was playing percussion in a salsa band, drums in church, in marching band and Brooklyn Colleges' Jazz Band under the tutelage of jazz musician Saleem Washington all by high school. More recently he has become a full time musician and producer. His versatile and groove-oriented style has allowed him opportunities to perform and/or record with various artists like Kelly Price, Tek of Smif-n-Wessun (Cocoa Brovaz), and singer Stephanie McKay in NYC and beyond. He has also played many of yearly events such as the Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival, CMJ and the New York City Jazz Festival. Currently Andrew is working on a new project with Hip-Hop Soul Band Sankofa Soulz. In 2008, he started Abstract Rhythm recording studio along with his partner and Head Engineer, Brendan O' Brien. They are currently working on production for the forthcoming albums from up and coming artists Kelly Waters and Sankofa Soulz Band. Forever a student of music, he also is making progress in piano, and singing. Andrew or "Drew" as so many call him, has a strong faith and trust in God. Drew sums up the reason he's gone this far and will go much further in one of his favorite biblical scriptures: " Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not to thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge HIM and HE shall direct thy path.
