Prevent Air Pollution
Amr knows how detrimental climate change is to the environment, especially in his home country of Egypt. “It’s a countdown to global catastrophe. In addition to the rise of sea level, climate change will also produce stressful effects on water, agricultural resources and human settlements.” In order to educate people about this impending disaster, Amr founded “Prevent Air Pollution,” a team of students dedicated to spreading its message, researching pressing issues and ultimately creating methods to slow down climate change. Since its inception in May 2007, 350 teenagers have been introduced to the cause via lectures, pamphlets, fliers, and videos. Students all over Alexandria, Egypt now know that the sea is expected to rise 30 cm by 2025. Though it may not seem like a significant amount, that tiny increase may directly impact 1.5 million inhabitants. Recently, Amr has reached out to other NGOs (non-governmental organizations) to promote his project on an even larger stage. “I will add to this world. I will make a change in environmental protection. My dream is to create a peaceful society in which everyone respects human rights and can fulfill his/her goals of leading a healthy and effective life.”
