Sacajawea Hall
Position(s):
Speaker
Sacajawea "Saki" Hall's passion for social justice started at a young age witnessing and questioning inequality both in New York City, her hometown, and Haiti, her mother's country. As a high school student she began exploring the issues of race, class and gender and went on to study these areas at Goucher College and the University of Cape Town.
After returning to New York City she decided to not only research and write about social change, but to "get involved" as an activist and organizer. As a member of the Malcolm X Grassroots Movement, a national human rights organization, she has been involved with organizing around women's issues, police brutality and political prisoners.
At the same time Saki began journalism and radio production trainings through a community radio station in New York, WBAI 99.5fm. She is a founding producer of the show Rise Up Radio, a youth-produced social justice show that airs weekly on WBAI.
Bridging her experience as a radio journalist and community organizer, Saki works with youth to create media for social change as the Director of Radio Rootz in New York City, People's Production House's youth media program that teaches media literacy, media advocacy and radio production.
