Deborah A. Batiste began her 16-year teaching career in 1975 as an English teacher in Maryland. In 1991, Ms. Batiste joined the Anti-Defamation League, where for nine years she served as Associate Director of Training and Curriculum for the A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE® Institute, an international anti-bias/diversity awareness program. She was also Project Director for a unique government-NGO joint initiative – Partners Against Hate – working with educators, law enforcement officials, parents and community leaders on effective hate crime prevention and response techniques. For three years, Ms. Batiste served as a Project Director at Annenberg/CPB, which provides award-winning video- and Web-based professional development programs to educators through satellite transmission and national public broadcasting stations in the U.S. She recently completed the design and development of 15 hours of course content for ADL’s new Web-based anti-bias initiative—Making Diversity Count: An Online Course for Educators. Today, Ms. Batiste serves as the Project Director and Lead Writer for Echoes and Reflections — A Multimedia Curriculum on The Holocaust. She has made numerous presentations to national and international audiences, and was named Multicultural Educator of the Year by the National Association for Multicultural Education (NAME).
