Mentors change lives. By providing advice, guidance and support, or just being available to be a sounding board for ideas, mentors become invaluable resources for young people to draw on and learn from.

Our Three Dot Dash Global Teen Leaders (GTLs) are already leaders in their own right – taking on difficult issues and making positive differences in their communities. Imagine what they could do with a little guidance from a mentor over the course of a year! And that's what we are finding out…

At the 2008 Just Peace Summit, each GTL was paired with one or more Three Dot Dash Mentor(s) based on the GTL's project and needs and the Mentor's expertise and interest. Mentors and GTLs will work together over the next year to strategize and fulfill individual one-year, goal-oriented action plans to further the GTL’s project.

what is the three dot dash mentoring program goal?

The goal of the Three Dot Dash Mentoring Program is to help further the projects of the Global Teen Leaders (GTLs) by giving advice and guidance in one or more of the following areas:

  • Defining GTL's Project - Identity and Branding
  • Identifying Project Sustainability Strategies
  • Identifying Fundraising and/or Development Strategies
  • Recommending Project Expansion Strategies
  • Providing Overall Guidance and Support – simply being available by email or phone to answer questions or being a sounding board

how do we match mentors with gtls?

Each GTL was matched with one or more Mentor(s) prior to the Three Dot Dash Just Peace Summit, March 29 – April 4, 2008. Potential Mentors were required to fill-out and submit the Mentor Application Form and matched with a GTL based on the GTL’s individual needs and Mentor’s interests and expertise.

what do we expect from a three dot dash mentor?

  • Volunteer mentoring services.
  • Serve for one year (12 months) following the 2008 Three Dot Dash Just Peace Summit: April 2008 – April 2009.
  • Support the GTL in creating a one-year goal-oriented action plan during the Summit that will serve as a guideline to further the GTLs' projects over the next 12 months.
  • Communicate with the GTL at least once per month for 12 months. However, the total amount of time that the Mentor and GTL spend communicating during those 12 months is up to the individual pair.
  • Submit progress reports in June '08, September '08 and December '08.
  • Submit a FINAL report in March '09. At that time, the Mentor will have fulfilled his/her Three Dot Dash obligation.
