Shawna holds a BA with Honors in Sociology and a minor in Education and Applied Psychology from University of California Santa Barbara (UCSB). While at UCSB, she worked as a teaching assistant and coached youth basketball. Additionally, she spent a semester in Washington DC interning and researching the effects of education policy on student health and achievement. After finishing college, Shawna worked with students with special needs at Twain Elementary and was the Assistant Coach for the Mercer Island High School Varsity Softball team in her hometown of Seattle, WA. Prior to joining Global Kids, she worked and interned for various organizations promoting peace and reconciliation in the Middle East, including Just Vision and Parents Circle-Families Forum. Shawna has spent her summers working for Seeds of Peace in Maine, where she was able to work with teenagers living in conflict regions around the world. Shawna currently works at Global Kids where she uses online technologies to promote international collaboration and youth development around global issues. Shawna has spent significant time in the Middle East and has traveled in Guatemala, Belize, and Mexico.
