Culture Project

Culture Project presents dramatic works that explore today's defining social and political issues. Culture Project's acclaimed production of The Exonerated focused attention on six exonerees, wrongfully imprisoned and then released without recognition. The Exonerated was turned into a Court TV Movie starring Susan Sarandon and Danny Glover. The Culture Project originated Sarah Jones' bridge and tunnel. With Guantánamo: Honor Bound to Defend Freedom, the Culture Project explored the atrocities perpetrated in the Guantánamo prison camp in the name of freedom. Guantánamo featured a guest appearance by Archbishop Desmond Tutu, which was covered by 5,000 media outlets worldwide, and was performed for the British Parliament in February 2006. These productions and others have garnered Drama Desk, OBIE, and Outer Circle Critics awards, as well as the Amnesty International Freedom of Expression Award and the Champions of Justice Award from the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. The Culture Project produces an annual festival celebrating women in the arts, Women Center Stage.
